Rio Dulce
Guatemala
2025
Río Dulce, the “sweet river”, connects the Guatemalan highlands to the Caribbean, carrying with it both beauty and burden. Along its banks, the jungle presses close, mangroves reach into the water, while Garífuna communities endure storms, poverty, and the tide of plastic waste washed in from distant seas.
Yet amid these struggles, resilience endures: fishermen casting nets at dawn, colors alive in the trees and in daily life, a strength woven into the land and its people. The river becomes both mirror and witness, holding together contrasts of fragility and perseverance.
